If are deciding what style is best for your home, the choices can be overwhelming. You can usually cross some styles out immediately, while others may be harder. You may see the country style, and know that you aren’t going to be putting quilts and cross stitch needlework around your house, so that is not quite your taste. You might look at the antique style, but you know that you don’t want a chaise lounge, flowery wallpaper or antique sideboards around either, and you know the antique decor isn’t for you. Then there is the contemporary style furniture, which is very nice and sleek, but oh the price! And not only that, the problem with modern furniture is that it is out of fashion with a couple years, so then you are constantly trying to keep up with the Jones’, running to keep your home up with the times rather than have “has been” furniture. Maybe not for you then.
There are a couple styles in between these others that may be more up your alley however. Traditional style furniture is classically beautiful and practical, because it has withstood the test of generations and has become classic. You can find traditional pieces that are neither antique of modern designs, but rather neutral pieces that are timeless. One branch of dining room and living room furniture that appeals to many is the Mission style. You will often find Mission style buffet tables and dining room sets that are just beautiful. Mission style furniture can be made of dark or light wood, and it’s clean lines and simple design never goes out of fashion.
If you don’t like the Mission style per se, you can always find other simple and classic designs to put in your home. Another popular traditional design is the rustic style, where your dining room furniture or living room pieces have a more rustic, rough around the edges kind of look while still incorporating simple and smooth lines. Many people like having a rustic dining room table or buffet hutch, because it’s easy to mix and match any other style furniture with it. Although rustic styles are often dark wood, you can find lighter wood rustic furnishings made of Ash or Beech wood.
No matter what style you find to be your own, one thing is for certain. Your home furnishings should be a reflection of you, and whatever styles speak to you and make you feel comfortable are the best ones to go with. |
