Most of us take our living room tables for granted. This statement may sound strange, but the truth of the matter is, we do! When we sit down on the couch to watch a Sunday afternoon football game, we bring out the chips and salsa, the soda, and the mustard laden hot dogs. Somehow, however, we forget the coasters. The cold cans and bottles leave rings on our tabletops and, after years of this abuse, we finally realize the rapid rate at which we are destroying our table! Our living room buffet cabinet also suffers. The kids constantly kick it with the soccer ball (when will they stop playing with those toys in the house?) and the dog loves to chew on it when he feels like he is not receiving enough attention.
Hundreds of households suffer from this common problem, which is also known as "living room tables' abuse syndrome." It does not have to be this way though! If you follow a few simple steps, you can prevent yourself from misusing your living room tables and, as a result, you will help them last much longer.
First, purchase some coasters. If you have a long coffee table, make coasters available at both ends of the table so that people can see them easily. When these items are not accessible, they will not be used. A coaster saves your beautiful table from any drink rings, keeping its surface damage free for years! Your coffee table also deserves a refreshing rub down every week. You can do the same with your dining room table. Simply take a soft cloth and an all-purpose cleaner and spend a few minutes wiping it down. It will always look as good as new.
As for your buffet cabinet, you need to save it from your kids and the dog. First off, take all furniture-abusive toys out of the house. Footballs, soccer balls, and darts should not be used inside anyway; your buffet table will be forever grateful. The toys that do need to be in the house, though, are chew toys for Fido. Purchase a few at your local pet store and he will be so thrilled with them, he will no longer need your attention 24 hours a day!
