Planning a Living Room Buffet Party

Did you just purchase a new living room buffet? These tables are so elegant and are perfect whether you need them to display framed photographs or to frame a wall mirror. Another wonderful use for a new living room buffet table however is as a place to serve food. I think it is time to throw a party and, in the spirit of your latest purchase, it should be a buffet dinner party!

Who does not enjoy buffets? Large amounts of food all laid out in an organized manner before you...it is a dream come true! Breakfast buffets are usually everyone's favorite. People enjoy large selections of fresh fruit, pancakes, eggs, sausages, hash browns, and quiche on the weekends so that they have all day to digest. Buffets are wonderful for that reason: you can have small amounts several different things instead of only one or two items. Breakfast buffets are difficult to host, however. It is best to leave those to the restaurants. A dinner buffet it is!

The type of food you put on the menu for the evening depends largely on your seating accommodations and the number of guests you plan on inviting. If you have a large dining room table and plan for everyone to sit down to enjoy their food, then you can create more complex dishes that require cutlery. On the other hand, if you plan on having more guests than or which you have seating, your guests will be doing most of their eating standing up or with their plates on their laps. In this case, you should plan to stick to finger foods, and I recommend that you avoid tough meats and pasta.

During the first hour of your party you should have simple, yet elegant, hors d'oeuvres set out for the guests who do arrive on time or early. Pre-cut vegetables and dips, cheese and crackers, and even chips and dip are great choices. The main course dishes should be slightly more upscale but not too complicated. Have pre-sliced meats, such as roast beef and turkey available, accompanied by some veggies. Make sure you have some bread or rolls available so that your guests can make sandwiches if they prefer.

Dessert is the best part so make sure you have some variety! You should always have a chocolate and non-chocolate option available because that usually covers everyone's tastes. Show off your new sideboard by throwing a buffet dinner party soon!
